Boring ‘Very British’-Festival

Jul 2009

Here’s my report on the ‘Very British’-Festival at the Rhein Ruhr Zentrum shopping mall in Mülheim an der Ruhr. I had announced it here. It was only okay and not really worth going there. The trick worked – we did shopping :-)

I do agree. Unless you were a fan of vintage British cars it was a waste of time to go there.

    Hello,

This is an inquiry not a comment or criticism, but I do see a comment area at this site. How many members do you have at this site? Is there a calendar of events? I think this website is a great idea, but I do not understand if there is a forum for discussion, networking, etc.

I am American living in Essen. I have lived here for seven years with my German wife. I am a Business English trainer. I think there many Germans in the Ruhr that would like to meet on a casual basis to speak English. Have you found this to be the case, too?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,

    Roderick

    Members at this site?
Well it’s me that writes the articles :-)
Due to Google Analytics there are 15 to 20 unique visitors to this page each day. That’s not many compared to other site I care about. But one thing is different: I get emails and comments.

It seems to me that the few people who google for information that is provided on this site are very interested in it. Therefore they reply.

There is no forum for discussion in the website of this blog. There is only the option to comment on articles. If there will be more comments I might ad a more prominent listing for “recent comments”. For now, it is at the end of the page.

I might set up a list of the existing roundtbales. There is no schedule or calendar. Sometimes I post upcoming events but I don’t think it’s worth keeping record … at least at the moment.

I started collecting information on English acitivities after my wife joined the second roundtable I knew and after I met a girl that lived here for several years. The assistance of her dentist finally brought her to a meeting. There seems to be a demand for English activities for native speaker and others.

We went to this fiasco as my husband is English. It was VER BORING. LOL He has met the queen on 3 or 4 occassions and been to several garden parties. She speaks VERY good German so WHY did she address the German people in a German city in ENGLISH!! Not a complete disaster, she looked good…until she open her mouth. other then that we walked around, had a coffee and went home. On the day we went *the first Saturday) there was very little happening. Even listed events were not happening. For us it was a good time out but otherwise a waste of time

BTW I would love to see a list of roundtables PLEASE if you do not list them could you give me some idea where to find them PLEASE PLEASE

Well, I am working on that list. I am looking forward to get a first edition soon. The roundtables are run by private person. Therefore I need their permission because I want to list contacts for each roundtable.
